Activities

GenderCC has its roots in all regions of the world, operating via regional Focal Points in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Pacific, Europe and North America. Moreover, the network has built a strong network of committed women around the world, who carry rare but much needed expertise on gender aspects of climate change.

GenderCC is engaged in different kind of activities designed to improve the integration women’s perspectives and gender aspects into climate change mitigation and adaptation policies at national, regional and international levels, including in particular the UNFCCC process. In particular, GenderCC is working to integrate the perspectives of women from developing countries into climate change related policy making.

In order to reach this goal, GenderCC is currently focusing on:

• Developing collective strategies and positions that are rooted in local realities for national, regional and international advocacy activities by strengthening South-South and South-North exchange of experiences and collective learning;

• Raising awareness at all levels (national, regional and international) through capacity building events for relevant audiences and by providing information about climate change, particularly to women in each of the countries where Focal Points are based, including how to get involved in developing adaptation policies and strategies;

• Strengthening the advocacy basis for gender issues in climate policy through building and maintaining a wide network of interested organisations and individuals within women’s, indigenous people’s, trade unions and youth movements;

• Helping to expand the knowledge base on gender aspects of climate change by linking to a growing network of researchers working on gender and related areas and by providing information (publications, case studies and other relevant materials) via our internet platform.
