COP10 in Buenos Aires: Gender perspectives from the North and the South

During COP10 two side events on gender and climate change were organised, one by by ETC Foundation, another one by LIFE and WECF.
The first one, "Gender and climate change: vulnerability and adaptation", focussed on the importance of including a gender perspective in the vulnerability/adaptation discourse and initiatives. Presentations were given by (from left) Angie Dazé, Care Canada, Margaret Skutsch (facilitator); Phil O'Keefe, ETC-UK; Tom Bakkum, CATHALAC; and William Kojo Agyemang-Bonsu, EPA Ghana.

The second one, " From theory to practice: analysing gender impacts of climate change policies and mechanism", discussed how mechanism to reduce emissions impact women and men in a different way. Instruments used to analyse gender issues and how they fit to climate change mechanism were presented . In the follow up of the side events a position statement was elaborated by the organisers and participants on how to integrate gender into the climate change regime and what issues should be addressed. The position statement was distributed during the conference to the delegations.
