Social Injustice & Climate Chaos: Feminist Response to Cancellation of COP25

With the cancellation of the COP25 in Santiago, the Women&Gender Constituency has published a statement about the political situation in Chile.

At the end of October 2019, the Chilean government announced the cancellation of the COP25 in Santiago after declaring a state of emergency. This decision was made in response to widespread political protests against the government's neoliberal policies. The protests against social inequality were met with police violence, severely infringing people's human rights. This has especially affected women and feminists who are at the frontline of the protests. The Women&Gender Constituency remains firm in their support for all protestors, especially women, feminists, Indigenous people, LGBTQI+ persons, and environmental rights defenders.
